Mids Travel To Bucknell For Patriot League Quarterfinals
The Navy men's basketball team begins its quest for a Patriot League Tournament title and an NCAA Tournament berth on Wednesday night with a Patriot League Tournament quarterfinal game at Bucknell beginning at 7:00 pm, in Sojka Pavilion. The Mids enter the contest with a 14-15 overall record, earning the No. 7 seed with a 4-10 Patriot League record. Bucknell is 20-8, garnering the second seed with a 13-1 league record.

The Mids are riding a two-game losing streak, dropping Navy below .500 for the season. Navy controlled its own fate for the No. 4 seed and a home game, but dropped decisions to American (71-60 on Feb. 20) and Colgate (70-62 on Feb. 24). Nevertheless, the Mids enter the tournament with 14 wins, the most for the program since 2000-01.

Navy is led by junior guard Greg Sprink, who was named All-Patriot League second team in voting done by coaches. Sprink is averaging 17.2 ppg and led all league players in scoring in league games with a 17.9 ppg average, becoming the first Navy player to do that. He is averaging 23.7 ppg in Navy's last three games and has dumped in at least 23 points in three of Navy's last five games.

Bucknell, which is trying to become the second team in league history to win three straight Patriot League Tournament titles, boasts a balanced lineup. The Bison are paced by Patriot League first-teamer Chris McNaughton (11.5 ppg, 5.9 rpg) and second-teamer Donald Brown (11.8 ppg, 6.6 rpg). Brown has been out of the lineup since Feb. 2 (against Navy) with a fractured bone in his right hand, but will likely suit up against the Mids on Wednesday. John Griffin is the third Bucknell player to score in double digits, averaging 10.5 ppg.

The winner will play the winner of Lehigh vs. Army in the semifinals on Sunday, March 4.
