PRINCETON, N.J. -- Justine Whipple placed second in the 10,000-meter run to lead the Navy contingent at the IC4A Championships on Friday at Princeton University. Whipple was the lone placewinner for either squad in three events.
Whipple finished the 10,000-meter run with a clocking of 35:11.84, just three-and-a-half seconds shy of the school record. Her clocking was also just 11.84 seconds short of NCAA provisional qualifying status. The winner finished the race in 34:58.82, defeating Whipple by 13 seconds. Her finish gave Navy eight points on the women's side, good for fifth place after day one.
On the men's side, Andre Barber recorded Navy's best finish on the day, with an 11th-place showing in the discus at 152-07. Navy's other participant came in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, where Michael Niemi placed 28th with a time of 9:42.48.
Action in the IC4A Championships will continue on Saturday. Navy's first event on the men's side will begin at 11:00 am, while Navy's women's action gets underway at 1:00 pm.
