Patriot League Weekly Release (10.13.08) 
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Patriot League named Navy sophomore forward Carissa Youker (Potomac, Md.) its offensive player of the week on Monday afternoon, while junior defender Shelly Moeller (Milford, Ohio) picked up defensive honors for the second-straight week and the third time this season.
This fall, six different Mids (Lizzie Barnes, Katelyn George, Kristen Laraway and Carey Young) have combined to claim a league-best nine weekly awards. In addition, a Navy player has now received one of the four weekly women's soccer honors in seven of the eight weeks to begin the season.
Youker earns her first league laurel after putting the finishing touches on the finest week of her collegiate career with her team-leading seventh goal of the season in Sunday's win over Lehigh.
She scored a total of four times on the week, including the game-winners in wins over Delaware State and Lehigh, and registered eight points to lead the red-hot Navy women's soccer team to a perfect 3-0 mark.
Youker scored in each of Navy's contests, including a career-best two-goal effort against Delaware State. Through 15 games, she paces the Patriot League's top scoring offense (2.13 goals/gm) with seven goals and 16 points - both career-best totals. Her seven goals tie her with Army freshman Dymon Washington for the second-highest total in the Patriot League this season.
Navy's second-year forward has showcased a knack for scoring timely goals during her young career. This season alone, Youker has recorded five game-winning goals tying Michelle Nance '00 for the sixth-best single-season mark in school history. Of course, no one will forget her first career game-winner which came during last November's league championship against Bucknell.
In that contest, Youker, who registered just four points as a freshman, came off the bench to score one of the biggest goals of 2007, to propel the Mids to a 1-0 victory and their second straight league crown.
While Youker's scoring touch has certainly sparked the Midshipmen's recent surge, a great deal of credit for Navy's success must also be given to a Moeller-led defensive unit that has pitched four consecutive shutouts and is allowing a Patriot League-low 0.73 goals per game.
Once again, Navy's junior center back has led the charge defensively for the Mids. Moeller was a dominant force at both ends of the field this past week, scoring a pair of goals, including the game-winner against Lafayette, and anchoring a defense that did not surrender a goal in three matches.
Moeller, the recipient of seven career weekly league accolades, now has three goals and two game-winners this season.
With shutouts of Lafayette and Lehigh over the weekend, Navy has now produced clean sheets in each of its first three Patriot League contests. Moreover, during the team's recent six-game win streak the Mids have surrendered just one goal.
Winners in six straight and nine of 10, Navy wraps up its record-long 10-game homestand with a pair of matches this weekend, beginning on Friday evening when American visits the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility for a 7 p.m. tilt.
