Women's Swimming Wins Potomac Relays

Oct. 3, 2008

Final Stats

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The depth of the Navy women's swimming team carried the Midshipmen to its third consecutive Potomac Relay Invitational title, Friday night at the Reeves Aquatic Center on the American University campus in Washington, D.C.

The Mids won four of the nine events contested at the meet and recorded second-place showings in three additional races to tally 322 points and narrowly edge second-place George Mason by eight points (314) and third-place American by 12 points (310).

"It was a solid meet by us in a meet that produced a lot of fast times and close races between all of the teams," said Navy head coach John Morrison. "We are happy that we won, but we are by no means satisfied with our performances tonight. We have a lot to work on. We're doing a lot of the big things well, but we need to improve on the little things that turn out to be the differences in the end. We're looking to clean things up before we open the regular season next week."

Navy picked up wins in the 300 butterfly relay, the 300 breaststroke relay, the 500 freestyle relay and the 1000 freestyle relay, with second-place finishes coming in the 800 freestyle relay, the 300 backstroke relay and the 400 medley relay.

Mallory Dietrich (Jr., Pittsburgh, Pa.), Thuy-Mi Dinh (Jr., Anaheim, Calif.) and Tara Chapmon (Jr., Virginia Beach, Va.) each had a hand in a pair of event victories for the Mids Friday night. Dietrich and Dinh both were members of Navy's victorious 300 fly and 300 breast relay teams, with Chapman helping Navy to wins in the 500 and 1000 freestyle relay events.

Additional swimmers who picked up a victory at the meet were Tessa Snow (So., Hamlin, N.Y.) in the 300 fly, Allison Aichele (Jr., Middletown, Md.) in the 300 breast, Lauren Milliron (Sr., Richmond, Va.), Heather Klein (So., Chicago, Ill.) and Kalea Middendorf (Jr., Aurora, Ill.) in the 500 free and Allison Ranzau (So., Alpharetta, Ga.) in the 1000 free.

Navy will open its regular season October 11 when the team -- along with the Navy men's swimming and diving squad -- travels to Baltimore to face Boston College, Catholic and Loyola.
