Patriot League Weekly Release (8.25.08)
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- On the strength of her first career two-goal effort, Navy senior Kristen Laraway (Long Valley, N.J.) has been named the Patriot League Brine Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon. It is her second career weekly laurel and first since her sophomore season on Oct. 30, 2006.
The Long Valley, N.J., native put the Mids on the scoreboard and netted the eventual game-winner just 2:58 into the Midshipmen's 3-0 season-opening victory Saturday over visiting Vermont. Laraway, who last scored on Nov. 3, 2006 against Lehigh, added her second tally in the 76th minute to complete her first career multi-goal game and help Navy secure its first win of 2008.
Laraway was a force both on- and off- the-ball during Saturday's opener. On the afternoon, she led a persistent Navy attack, which outshot Vermont 29-3, with a game-high seven shots - all on goal.
Laraway and her Midshipmen teammates will be back in action on Friday when they travel to the Golden State to face No. 10 Stanford (1-0-0) and UC Davis (1-1-0). The Mids battle the nationally-ranked Cardinal Friday at 10 p.m., and close out the weekend Sunday in a 6 p.m. contest in Davis, Calif., against the Aggies.
