Final Stats
BALTIMORE, Md. -- Adam Meyer (Sr., Bethesda, Md.) and Tara Chapmon (Sr., Virginia Beach, Va.) both won a trio of individual events to help the Navy swimming and diving programs post a pair of victories over UMBC, Saturday afternoon at the UMBC Natatorium in Baltimore. The Navy men's team won a 156-133 decision over the Retrievers, while the Navy women's squad recorded a 166-134 victory.
The victories allowed both Navy programs to improve their respective records to 4-0 on the season.
Meyer picked up wins in both butterfly events as well as in the 200 individual medley. His trio of wins were among the 11 recorded by Navy during the meet. Joining Meyer with multiple wins on the day were Mac Anthony (So., Allentown, Pa.) in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle events, and Olaf Olson (Jr., Bainbridge Island, Wash.), who swept the two diving boards.
Additional individual event victories were recorded by Erik Hunter (Jr., Placerville, Calif.) in the 1000 free, Andrew Hetzner (Sr., Riverside, Calif.) in the 100 back, Alex Buck (Sr., Lisle, Ill.) in the 50 free, and Pete Donahue (Jr., Washington, D.C.) in the 200 breaststroke. The Mids closed the meet by posting a victory in the 400 freestyle relay.
Chapmon, meanwhile began the women's meet by posting a very difficult back-to-back wins in the 1000 freestyle and the 200 free. She would later pick up the win in the 500 freestyle event, as well.
"Tara's double at the start of the meet really set the tone for us," said Navy women's swimming head coach John Morrison.
In addition to Chapmon, both Thuy-Mi Dinh (Sr., Anaheim, Calif.) and Kellie Darmody (Fr., Charlotte, N.C.) also won multiple events on the day. Dinh swept the sprint freestyle events, while Darmody won the two backstroke races. Rounding out the 13 Navy wins on the day were Jordyn Nicholl (Fr., Acworth, Ga.) on the one-meter springboard, Courtney Vandament (So., Coppell, Texas) on the three-meter springboard, Mallory Dietrich (Sr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) in the 200 breaststroke, Toni Paruso (Fr., Savannah, Ga.) in the 100 fly and both of Navy's relay teams.
"UMBC put together a very strong lineup, and we were pleased that we could meet their challenge," said Morrison.
The Navy teams will next be in competition Nov. 7 when the Mids play host to American, Bucknell and Lafayette in Lejeune Hall.
