Final Stats
BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Navy women's swimming & diving team (9-0) captured 15 of 16 events and broke nine facility records in a impressive dual-meet victory over host Vermont (8-5).
The Midshipmen, who entered the weekend ranked 10th nationally in CollegeSwimming.com's most recent Mid-Major Poll, improved to 9-0 on the year with the win, while the host Catamounts dropped to 8-5 on the season.
Heading Navy's efforts on the afternoon were a trio of double-event winners in Tara Chapmon (Sr., Virginia Beach, Va.), Thuy-Mi Dinh (Sr., Anaheim, Calif.) and Laura Gorinski (Fr., Greensburg, Pa.).
Chapmon notched a pair of pool records in victories in the 200 backstroke (2:01.31) and 1,000 freestyle (10:12.62). Her effort in the 200 back was the second-fastest performance in school history, ranking only behind Jennie Spencer's 2:00.46 effort at last year's Patriot League Championship.
Dinh was just as impressive as her classmate, also setting new facility records in her pair of victories in the 50 (23.85) and 100 freestyle events (52.08).
Not to be outdone, Gorinski, who continued her impressive freshman season with a sweep of both breaststroke events, also etched her name on Vermont's pool record board in her wins in the 100 (1:05.42) and 200 breaststroke (2:21.73).
It was a clean sweep of both diving boards as Courtney Vandament (So., Coppell, Texas) won the 3-meter event (244.13) and Jordyn Nicholl (Fr., Acworth Ga.) took home top honors at 1-meter (230.69).
Completing the list of Navy individual event winners was Allison Ranzau (Jr., Alpharetta, Ga.) in the 200 freestyle (1:52.97), Annika Thomas (Sr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) in the 200 fly (2:11.25), Toni Paruso (Fr., Savannah, Ga.) with a new pool record in the 100 fly (55.93) and Bryn Moriarty (Fr., Chesapeake, Va.) in the 400 individual medley (4:34.51).
The Mids also won both of the relay events during the meet, with the foursome of Kellie Darmody (Fr., Geneva, Fla.), Gorinski, Paruso and Dinh winning the 200 medley relay (1:46.65), and the team of Dinh, Chapmon, Ranzau and Hollis Capuano (Fr., Wallingford, Conn.) winning the 400 freestyle relay (3:33.88). Both relay efforts marked new Forbush Natatorium records.
The Navy women will return to the pool next Saturday, January 23, when they travel to New Haven, Conn. to take on Yale in dual meet action.
