Sept. 3, 2010

Box Score

Austin, Texas - Texas (3-0-1) scored five second half goals to overcome a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat Navy (2-2-1) in women's soccer action on Friday night at Myers Stadium. Five different players scored for Texas.

"After we went up 1-0, they made some good adjustments and it carried over to the second half," said head coach Carin Gabarra. "We had trouble answering their adjustments and struggled to contain them in the second."

Navy's Carissa Youker put Navy up 1-0 in the 13th minute, when she bent a corner kick into the back of the net. It was Youker's first goal of the season and the 19th of her career.

"Texas is likely the best team on our regular season schedule and we did play with them for long stretches," said Gabarra."It is something to build on and we are now looking forward to our game on Sunday against Texas State"

Freshman Alexes Lopez-Shaw was the starting goalkeeper for Navy and made five saves in the first half.

Texas outshot Navy 8-1 in the first half, but Youker's goal allowed Navy to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Texas equalized the game in the 58th minute when Hannah Higgins headed in a goal. Texas' Kylie Doniak put Texas up 2-1 in the 65th minute and the Longhorns broke the game wide open a minute later with Amanda Lisberger's tally.

The Longhorns scored the fourth goal in the 71st minute on Stacey-Ann Smith's score and posted the fifth in final goal in the 86th minute when Kate Incerto scored.

Navy's Christine Calderon had a solid scoring opportunity in the second half, as she broke away from the defense. However, before Calderon could get a shot on net, a Texas defender returned to the play and broke up the chance.

Texas outshot Navy 24-2 in the game and had six corner kicks to only two by Navy.

The Longhorns entered the game receiving votes in the NSCAA Poll.

Navy will return to action at Texas State on Sunday.
