Darmody Garners League Laurel

Oct. 17, 2011

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- Victories in both backstroke events led to Navy's Kellie Darmody (Jr., Charlotte, N.C.) being tabbed as this week's Patriot League Women's Swimmer of the Week. The league office made the announcement on Monday.

Darmody improved her combined record in the backstroke events to 4-0 on the young season with her sweep of the two races during Navy's meet against James Madison last week. She posted a time of 57.68 to win the 100 back by 1.87 seconds before winning the 200 back by 3.38 seconds with her clocking of 2:04.49. Darmody also placed third in the 100 fly (58.59) and swam a leg on Navy's second-place finishing 400 freestyle relay team. Her time of 52.28 in the latter event was the second-fastest clocking of all swimmers competing in the race.

This is the second time Darmody has been selected as the league's top women's swimmer of the week. She previously received the laurel after Navy's meet against James Madison in October of 2010.

Both Navy programs will next compete Friday at UMBC.
