ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's swimming and diving team (7-4) defeated visiting Johns Hopkins (7-1), 137-76, at Lejeune Hall on Wednesday evening. The Mids took first place in nine scored events at what was the final home dual meet for the Class of 2012.

"I was really pleased with how we competed against a very good Johns Hopkins team," head coach John Morrison said. "It was a good win for us, we swam well, we had some great performances and it was a good way to send the seniors off in their last dual meet."

Laura Gorinski (Jr., Greensburg, Pa.) established a new Lejeune Hall pool record in the 400m individual medley, clocking a 4:56.58 to win the race by nearly 10 seconds. The previous record was 4:57.00, set by Kelly Zahalka in 2008.

Gorinski also posted a 2:33.10 in the 200m breaststroke, which was an exhibition event for Navy.

Haley Nowak (So., Manassas, Va.) took first place in the 800m freestyle, touching at 9:07.44. Sam Brennan (Fr., Stillwell, Kan.) was second (9:17.99) and Katelyn Davidson (Jr., Geneva, Fla.) was third (9:18.66). Nowak also won the 400m free with a time of 4:27.98 to cap off her distance double.

"Laura Gorinski had a fantastic meet in breaking the pool record in the 400m IM, which is an event she doesn't swim very much," Morrison said. "Haley Nowak also swam some of her top times in both of the distance events."

Ange Sawick (Fr., Abingdon, Pa.) claimed first place in the 100m freestyle with a time of 59.44. Sawick also won the 200m freestyle, coming in at 2:05.72.

Katherine Jones (Sr., Dallas, Texas) won the 200m butterfly (2:22.72) and Nikki Hyrkas (Fr., Frederick, Md.) was second with a 2:26.55.

"It was great to watch Katherine Jones win the 200m fly in her final dual meet," Morrison said.

Courtney Vandament (Sr., Coppell, Texas) bested the NCAA 'A' Zone standard in the three-meter dive with 294.90 points and also tallied 260.10 points to win the one-meter dive.

Kellie Darmody (Jr., Charlotte, N.C.), Gorinski, Toni Paruso (Jr., Savannah, Ga.) and Bryn Moriarty (Jr., Chesapeake, Va.) teamed up to win the 400m medley relay with a time of 4:19.53. Paruso also won the 50m freestyle, coming in at 27.08.

The Mids will next be in action on Saturday at the home Navy Invitational at 12 noon.
