ANNAPOLS, Md. - The Navy men's track and field program (7-0) won four events at the Wesley Brown Invitational at the Wesley Brown Field House on Saturday afternoon and Navy posted 14 IC4A Championship qualifying performances. The Mids competed against Princeton, William & Mary and The Citadel at the non-team scored invitational.

The field house and Saturday's meet are named in honor of Lt. Cmdr. Wesley A. Brown, USN, who was the first African American graduate of the Naval Academy (Class of 1949). He passed away in May 2012.

"Overall there were some very good performances today," head coach Stephen Cooksey said. "We posted some performances that would indicate we are getting to where we need to be for the Army meet next weekend and beyond. We improved our season marks in a few events and got a number of IC4A qualifiers."

Navy took spots 1-3 in the pole vault and six of the top seven places overall. Freshman Jiles Maness won the event with a personal-best clear of 16-8¾ (5.10m), the fifth-best indoor mark in Navy history.

Sophomore Adam Vetere placed second with a clear of 15-9 (4.80m), earning his first trip to the IC4A Championships and becoming the fourth Navy pole vaulter to qualify this season. Sophomore Mark Vetere (3rd), junior Ryan Kochert (5th) and sophomore Josh Drablos (5th) all cleared 15-3 (4.65m).

Junior Zack Duncavage won the weight throw with an IC4A mark of 58-6 (17.83m) and junior Kyle Fortney was second at 56-2½ (17.13m). Duncavage also placed second in the shot put with a personal-best mark of 49-8½ (15.15m). Sophomore Tom Buffone was third in the shot put (48-10/14.88m) and third in the weight throw (53-0½/16.16m).

Senior Mitch Simmonds won the 60m hurdles with a season-best time of 8.19 (IC4A).

Navy took the top two spots in the 400m dash, with junior Jeremy Cadiente winning in 49.66 and senior Kolton Kempel taking second with a season-best time of 49.79.

Junior Brett Bogaard hit his first IC4A-qualifying time of the season, running a 22.15 to place second in the 200m dash. Senior Joshua Shaw placed fifth in the 800m run with a 1:54.59, his first IC4A mark of the season. Junior Weston Kennedy ran a 4:10.56 to place second in the mile run. Kennedy's time was his personal best and under the IC4A standard.

Senior Kyle Satterwhite ran a personal-best time of 8:10.59 to place second in a very fast 3,000m run. Sophomore Brian De La Mora was sixth at 8:17.09, sophomore Jeramy Triplett was seventh (8:18.73) and junior Sean Rynning was eighth (8:19.75). All four Navy runners, and the top eight overall in the race, were under the IC4A-qualifying standard.

Sophomore Ryan Kelley took second in the 5,000m run with an IC4A time of 14:43.59. Navy's distance medley relay team of freshman Chris Miller, freshman Ron Vaughn, sophomore Ethan Genco and senior Christopher Galvin placed second at 10:06.64 (IC4A).

Freshman Jeremy Granderson cleared a season-best height of 6-6¼ (1.99m) to place second in the high jump.

Princeton's Damon McLean set a new Wesley Brown Field House record in the triple jump at 51-0¼ (15.55m) and unattached entry Justin Frick set a facility record with his clear of 7-3 (2.21m) in the high jump.

Navy will head to West Point next weekend to compete in the annual Army-Navy Indoor Star Meet on Sunday at 3:30 PM. Navy owns a 26-25-2 all-time lead in the indoor series and defeated Army, 98-83, last season.
