ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Riding a four-game winning streak, Navy (6-2-0) enters Patriot League play against newcomer Boston University (5-2-1) on Friday, Sept. 20 at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility (3:30 PM). Then on Sunday, the Midshipmen travel to Loretto, Pa. to face St. Francis (Pa.) at noon for their penultimate non-conference contest. The Navy/Boston U. contest will be streamed in HD on the Patriot League Digital Network with Joe Miller as the play-by-play.
Scouting Boston University
• Boston U. started the 2013 season with a tough eight-game non-conference slate and came out looking like it could go deep the Patriot League postseason in its inaugural year in the conference. The Terriers are 5-2-1 with solid wins over Dayton (W, 1-0), UConn (W, 1-0) and a tie against then-No. 11 South Carolina (T, 0-0).
• The Terriers are currently receiving 19 votes in the National Soccer College Association of America, as of Tuesday, Sept. 17.
• BU's defense has not allowed a goal at home in five games. On the road, the Terriers have surrendered just four goals in three games. The Terrier backline is allowing 8.1 shots per game.
• Offensively, the Terriers have used a balance attack with six different goal scorers in their eight total goals. Madison Clemens and Erica Kosienski each have scored two goals.
• This is the first meeting between BU and Navy. The Midshipmen are 14-2-2 all-time against current America East Conference teams, which was the conference Boston U. was in before moving into the Patriot League.
Scouting St. Francis (Pa.)
• St. Francis (Pa.) has tallied a 3-4-1 overall record through the first eight games. The Red Flash are unbeaten in their only two contests at home, 1-0-1.
• The Red Flash success, especially offensively, has been heavily dependent on All-America candidates Tesa McKibben and Alecia McNiff. McKibben and McNiff have combined for eight goals (72 percent of team total) and two game-winners.
• Jessica Andrew has played all 761:12 minutes between the pipes for the Red Flash. Andrew is holding opponents to 1.18 goals per game and an .828 save percentage.
• In nine seasons at St. Francis (Pa.), head coach Brenda van Stralen has accrued an 88-64-25 record. Van Stralen has coached the Red Flash to 10-plus win seasons in the last three years.
Career Firsts
• Freshman forward Cat Macklin scored her first collegiate goal against The Citadel on Sunday, Aug. 25.
• Freshman midfielder Emily Tucker tallied her first career point, an assist, against High Point on Friday, Sept. 13.
Dangerous Dankanich
• Junior forward Morgan Dankanich is becoming more and more dangerous on offense to opposing defenses. Dankanich recorded five points on two goals and one assist to garner the Patriot League BRINE Offensive Player of the Week for Sept. 9 through Sept. 15.
• Dankanich added two goals and one assist last week to her team-leading 14 points through the first eight games.
Tempo-Setting Davidson
• Sophomore midfielder Kaylie Davidson seems to be the go-to midfielder to kick start the offense. Davidson scored the first goal of the season for Navy against N.C. State. That goal versus the Wolfpack gave the Midshipmen a 1-0 lead heading into the second half.
• Two days later, the Oceanside, Calif. native scored the first of Navy's five total goals against The Citadel. Her goal was the eventual game-winner, which brought her tally of game-winning goals to four in her career.
• Against St. Bonaventure, Davidson recorded her second game-winning goal of the season in the 92nd minute of overtime.
All-Around Performer
• Goalkeeper Elizabeth Hoerner's was placed on three different preseason honors and was named the team's captain for 2013.
• Hoerner's 1.06 goals against average, .808 save percentage, four shutouts and a 17-2-1 record in 2012 not only garnered her a spot on the 2013 Patriot League Preseason Team, but is being watched as one of 31 potential candidates in all of Division 1 women's soccer for the MAC Hermann Trophy this season.
• The senior goalkeeper has not disappointed this season, having put up solid numbers through the first eight games.
• Hoerner has posted a 0.97 goals against average through seven games played. She has recorded two solo shutouts and has combined with teammates Dayton Wetherby and Kalli Schulz for two more.
Dynamic Defender
• Along with her teammate Hoerner, junior defender Jade Seabrook has placed on the big stage following a terrific 2012 campaign as a full-time starter. Seabrook has not skipped a beat to begin the 2013 season, anchoring a backline that has recorded four shutouts.
• The St. Paris, Ohio native has seen little time on the bench, having played 702 of the 736 possible minutes.
