ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy women's soccer freshman midfielder Meghan Hegarty (Richmond, Va.) has been named this week's NAAA Athlete of the Week presented by Rolls-Royce. Hegarty tallied two goals as Navy went 1-0-1 in Patriot League play last week.
Hegarty began the week with her first career goal, which was the eventual game winner, against American in Navy's 4-1 victory. She and freshman teammate Clare MacAdam connected on a give-and-go inside the 18-yard box in the 58th minute. Hegarty then broke the scoreless tie against Colgate in the 24th minute for her second consecutive goal in as many games. Hegarty finished off the set-piece play from Rachel Hunter's corner kick.
Hegarty is second amongst Navy freshmen in points (6) and goals (2) behind teammate MacAdam, who has recorded seven points on three goals and one assist.
