Oct. 29, 2015 ANNAPOLIS, Md. â€" Navy women's soccer sophomore Meghan Hegarty (Richmond, Va.) was named to the 2015 Capital One Academic District II First Team, which was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.
The 2015 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-Districtâ„¢ recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Hegarty has excelled in the classroom to begin her academic career at the Academy, owning a 3.95 grade-point average as an operations research major. She has been placed on the Superintendent's and Commandant's List in her first two semesters at Navy. The Richmond, Virginia, native is currently seventh out of 1158 classmates in Overall Order of Merit, first in Academic Order of Merit and second in Military Order of Merit.
On the field, Hegarty has improved her offensive totals from last season with career highs in points (13), goals (4) and assists (5). She is eighth in the Patriot League in points, tied-for 10th in goals and tied-for second in assists. Hegarty is second on the team with two game-winning goals.
Hegarty's first-team honors place her on the national ballot to determine the Academic All-America team, which will be selected later this month.
Navy hosts Boston University on Saturday in the regular-season finale at 5 p.m. The match features Senior Day as Navy will recognize its three seniors, Courtney Mason, Lexi Ricketts and Lizzy Rullan along with team manager Jose Rojasrodas before the match.
