ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy swimming and diving teams will each take to the road this weekend to compete in a three-day invitational. The men's squad will be in action Thursday through Saturday at the Nike Cup at North Carolina, while the women's team will take part in the Frank Elm Invite at Rutgers Friday through Sunday.

The format at both of the meets this weekend mirrors what Navy will see later this season at the Patriot League Championship. Preliminary swimming heats will be held each morning, diving trials will take place in the early afternoon and a session of finals for both swimming and diving events will be contested nightly.

Navy's men's team placed sixth at last year's Nike Cup, while the school's women's team finished in second place at the 2014 Frank Elm Invite.

In addition to the Mids and Tar Heels, some of the other teams entered into the Nike Cup include Duke, East Carolina, North Carolina State and Old Dominion.

"This year's version of the Nike Cup appears to be a very, very competitive and exciting meet," said Navy men's swimming head coach Bill Roberts. "Each of the programs entered into the meet has had success at the NCAA level in recent years. With three programs entering this meet ranked in the top 25 on the men's side, it will be a fun and important opportunity for our program.

"Just as in previous years, we are going to have to be at our best over the six sessions as there is very little room for error."

The 10-team field for the Frank Elm Invite includes the Mids and the host Scarlet Knights as well as James Madison, Northeastern, New Hampshire, and Liberty.

"A meet like this is great preparation for the league championship," said Navy women's swimming head coach John Morrison. "So many things are different during this meet than what takes places in a typical dual meet. There are always a lot of lessons learned that come out of competing at a three-day meet which we can apply in February at the league meet."
