Intercollegiate Sailing Places Eighth at the War Memorial

Nov. 2, 2015

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy intercollegiate sailing team only had one competition this weekend, but it was a big one, the MAISA Fall Championship for the War Memorial Trophy.

This year's event was held at Cornell University and the top 18 teams in Navy's conference were on hand vying for berths in three future events and positioning for schedule ranking for next year.

The event started out very cold, with frost covering the boats as the teams rigged. The temperature rose throughout the day on Saturday, but light and shifty winds challenged the fleet and only four A division and three B division races were completed.

Sunday was much warmer and much windier, but the wind was still extremely shifty and variable, ranging in direction from south to northwest and in velocity from 5 to 30 knots throughout the day.

Navy finished eighth overall, good enough to qualify for the Atlantic Coast Championship this fall and pre-qualify for the America Trophy regatta in the spring.

Patrick Snow and Aaron Hull finished 10th in A division while Michael Popp, Megan Hough, Molly Robertson and Jimmy Madigan were fourth in B.
