March 2, 2015 ANNAPOLIS, Md. - With winter refusing to subside here in Annapolis, the Navy intercollegiate sailing team was forced to head south this weekend to get some much needed time on the water.
While the team had three events scheduled, one was cancelled and one was moved due to ice. The one event that went on as planned was the Charleston Women's Regatta. While the waterways were clear in South Carolina, the conditions were far from tropical, as the women raced in 40 degree, rainy weather both days. Navy finished 11th overall out of 14 teams, with Hannah Hughes and Molly Robertson coming in 11th in A division while Emma Ferris and Molly Hanson were 8th in B.
Due to ice in Santee Basin and on the Severn River, the Quad Scrimmage scheduled to happen at Navy was moved to Old Dominion University. While it was certainly cold on the water both days, with temperatures below freezing on Saturday and just above freezing Sunday, Navy sailors got some great practice time against some of the best teams in our conference. The Midshipmen participating in Norfolk were Alex Asuncion, Mary Hall, Connor Hendi, Michael Popp, Michael Madigan, Patrick Snow, Sahara Graft, Addison Hackstaff, Michelle Katz, Jimmy Madigan, Gary Prieto, Brittany Webb-Martin and Amelia Winn.
The Pirate Team Race scheduled at Hampton University this past weekend was cancelled.
