April 11, 2015 WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Navy lightweight rowing team went a perfect four-for-four in racing action on the Potomac River versus Georgetown on Saturday. The ninth-ranked Mids swept the entire slate of competition versus the 11th-ranked Hoyas for the second straight year.
Navy's day on a moderately choppy Potomac River began with a one-two finish in the fourth varsity/first freshmen eight race. The Mids in the fourth varsity boat won with a time of 6:02.4 to come in one second ahead of their teammates in the first freshmen boat at 6:03.4. Georgetown's fourth varsity boat completed the 2,000-meter course with a time of 6:17.6.
The Mids' second and third varsity boats turned in dominant performances over their Hoya opposition. Navy won the second varsity race by 25.1 seconds at 5:53.3 to 6:18.4, while the third varsity crew cruised to a 31.4-second victory at 5:54.2 to 6:25.6.
In the first varsity eight race with the Forster Cup on the line, the Mids won by 17.1 seconds at 5:46.3 to 6:03.4.
"Our team did a great job of staying composed today in yet again challenging conditions," said head coach Shawn Bagnall. "I'm proud of their focus on consistent rhythm and work throughout the entire race. We appreciate the Georgetown and GW coaching staff working to get our racing in during a busy weekend in DC."
Navy will move onto action in Boston next weekend with a Saturday meet at Harvard. Competition between the Mids and Crimson is slated for 9 a.m. on the Charles River.
