ANNAPOLIS, Md. â€"â€" Navy's Lauren Barber (Fr., New Wilmington, Pa.) will make her debut at the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championship this week when the 36th edition of the meet begins in Atlanta, Ga. The championship runs Wednesday night through Saturday at Georgia Tech's McAuley Aquatics Center.

Barber, who is the first freshman in both Patriot League history and Navy's Division I era to compete in a swimming event at the championship, will first take to the pool Thursday when she competes in the 200 individual medley. She is seeded 38th in the event's field with a time of 1:57.89. Friday's slate of events includes the 100 breaststroke in which Barber is seeded 40th with her clocking of 1:00.77. Barber will close out the meet by competing in the 200 breaststroke on Saturday. Her qualifying time of 2:10.53 places her 33rd in the event.

The top-eight swimmers in the preliminary heats advance to the evening's championship final, while those who finish in ninth through 16th place in the morning will swim at night in the event's consolation final.

Barber is the fifth Navy swimmer and seventh Mid to qualify for the championship since the program began competing on the Division I level during the 1991-92 season. This is the fifth time in the last nine years and the ninth time in school history in which at least one Mid has competed at the Division I championship.
