ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– Fifteen different swimmers and divers won at least one individual event for the Navy teams in victories by the Mids over UMBC Friday evening at Lejeune Hall in Annapolis. Navy (both teams 2-1) defeated UMBC (both teams 2-1) by scores of 185-107 in the women's meet and 198-100 in the men's meet.
"It was a very good meet for us," said Navy women's swimming head coach
John Morrison. "We came in and swam a lot more consistent than we did last week against LSU and UConn. I think we are definitely improving as a team."
"One of the highlights today was that we were down a couple of guys for some random things," said Navy men's swimming head coach
Bill Roberts. "The team stepped up well and filled some gaps in our lineup we weren't expecting to have earlier in the week. I'm happy with that."
The Navy women's team won 15 of the 16 events contested during the meet. Four Mids came away with a pair of individual victories against the Retrievers.
Lauren Barber (Sr., New Wilmington, Pa.) was the first to reach two wins as she won both the 200 free (1:49.66) and the 200 breaststroke (2:18.47) events.
Martina Thomas (Fr., Fayetteville, Ark.) followed by taking the 100 free (52.16) and the 500 free (4:57.16) races.
Ashley Boddiford (So., Oviedo, Fla.) would earn the double with her victories in the 200 back (2:03.05) and 200 IM (2:08.76).
Hannah Montau (Fr., Germantown, Md.) would be the fourth Mid to come away with two wins as she swept the one (271.88) and three-meter diving (287.25) events.
Also winning an event for Navy were

Ali Kozlina (So., Cranberry Township, N.J.), 50 free (24.44); and
Sydney Harrington (Fr., Fairfax, Va.), 100 fly (56.54).
Navy also swept the two relay races.
"It was great to see a couple of the swimmers step up in some events," said Morrison. "
Ashley Boddiford had three very good swims, so we are pleased with her efforts. We are seeing some improvements from week-to-week, which is what we want to see."
The Navy men's team earned 12 victories in all on Friday.
Luke Johnson (So., Charlotte, N.C.) won both distance freestyle races as he won the 1000 free (9:23.23) –– by one-quarter of a second –– and the 500 free (4:35.56).
Brayden Lauffer (Sr., Apex, N.C.) picked up two more wins as he touched the wall first in the 200 breast (2:03.38) and 200 IM (1:52.67) events.
Bradley Buchter (Jr., Hickory, N.C.) would match Montau's effort as he won both boards (383.03, 405.23).
James Wilson (Jr., Ephrata, Pa.) also won two events for the Mids with his victories coming in the 100 back (49.39) and 100 fly (50.40).
Additional individual event winners for the Mids were

Micah Oh (So., Kent, Ohio), 200 fly (1:50.92).
The Navy men also won both the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay races.
"We saw a lot of good racing," said Roberts. "UMBC always comes in ready to race us. It was no different this year. We are happy with the racing. I felt our guys improved today from last week in some needed areas."
"We definitely saw improvement from last week's meet," said Navy diving coach
Rich MacDonald. "All of the divers are working really hard to make the changes and corrections they need in order to get to the next level. It didn't all show up today, but we definitely made huge strides from a week ago. I'm looking forward to next week to see how we adjust and improve with another week of training."
Navy will be back in Lejeune Hall one week from today when the Mids play host to Johns Hopkins, Towson and William & Mary at 4 p.m.
