ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– The Navy swimming and diving teams improved their respective records to 5-1 this season after each recorded victories over Johns Hopkins, Towson and William & Mary Friday evening at Lejeune Hall in Annapolis.
The Navy women totaled 13 event wins in defeating Johns Hopkins (0-5), 239-53; Towson (3-2), 192.5-107.5; and William & Mary (1-3), 203-91. In the men's meet, the Mids won seven events in posting wins over the Blue Jays (1-4), 257-43; the Tigers (2-2), 197.5-102.5; and the Tribe (2-2), 181-119.
The Navy women's team won both relay events contested on the day. Leading the individual event winners for the Mids was
Lauren Barber (Sr., New Wilmington, Pa.), who won the 100 breast (1:03.19), 200 breast (2:18.77) and the 100 IM (57.95). Additional multiple event winners were
Martina Thomas (Fr., Fayetteville, Ark.) in the 200 free (1:50.09) and the 100 free (51.49), and
Hannah Montau (Fr., Germantown, Md.) on both diving boards (1M: 266.10, 3M: 296.70).
"It is nice to see our depth continue to be an asset for us this earlier in the season," said Navy women's swimming head coach
John Morrison."
The lone double-event winner for the Navy men was diver
Bradley Buchter (Jr., Hickory, N.C.), who won both the one (404.93) and three-meter (386.93) events.
"We had a mixed set of results today," said Navy men's swimming head coach
Bill Roberts. "There was some terror racing going on between the four teams. We expected to be a little sharper tonight, but we are not disappointed."
Navy will next be in competition in two weeks when it travels to Lewisburg, Pa., to face Patriot League foes American, Bucknell and Lafayette.
