ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– The Navy swimming and diving teams competed in three-day meets this weekend.
Â
Members of the Navy diving team spent the weekend competing in the Navy Invitational in Annapolis. The event featured divers from several of the top programs that will be vying for NCAA Championship berths in the spring.
Â
Navy's
Bradley Buchter (Jr., Hickory, N.C.) won the men's one-meter board and placed third in the three-meter competition and
Hannah Montau (Fr., Germantown, Md.) placed second in women's platform diving by just five-hundredths of a point to highlight the team's efforts during the three-day meet.
Â
"Overall I was happy with how our divers performed this weekend," said Navy diving coach
Rich MacDonald. "The competition was very strong. It was nice to see them put all of their hard work together and have great results. That should give us good momentum heading into Army.
Â
"Bradley beating a multiple-time All-American diver on the one meter and Hannah being just edged on platform were pretty awesome."
Â
The Navy women's swimming team won the five-team Liberty Invitational in Lynchburg, Va. The Mids accrued over 2,700 points to outdistance the field by 900 points.
Â
Navy totaled 13 event wins, with
Lauren Barber (Sr., New Wilmington, Pa.) winning the 200 individual medley and both breaststroke events.
Â
"We were really pleased with the weekend," said Navy head coach
John Morrison. "Our seniors did a great job of leading the team through our first three-day meet of the season, which produced many very good performances for this time of year. We have a lot of work to do, but this was a big step in the right direction.
Â
"Lauren did a real nice job with three wins. We also were excited to see many of our freshmen such as
Martina Thomas (Fayetteville, Ark.) and
Sarah Sorensen (Kennesaw, Ga.) advance to finals of events."
Â
Final team scores and results from Sunday evening's competition at the House of Champions meet in Indianapolis, Ind., were not available, but the Navy men's swimming team entered the final session in third place at the nine-team meet.
Â
"We are very appreciative of the opportunity to be part of this excellent event," said Navy men's swimming head coach
Bill Roberts on Sunday. "We are honored to be invited by the hosts (IUPUI). We also are appreciative of the support we received to attend this meet. It was a positive experience with several meaningful takeaways. We look forward to applying what we learned."
Â
Navy will resume its fall season December 1 when it faces Army in the annual Star Meet at West Point.
