Last Time Out
Navy went up to Baltimore on Friday night and came away with a 2-1 win over Loyola courtesy of a pair of goals by junior defender
Alex Jackson. Jackson's offensive prowess supplied the Mids with all of the scoring that they would need in the matchup versus the Greyhounds at the Ridley Athletic Complex.
The Mids' starting central defender was on the receiving end of two set-piece volleys as she put away a
Karli Sottung header in the 33rd minute to help Navy go up 1-0 over Loyola before later netting an important insurance marker in the 81st minute. On her second goal,
Molly Gillcrist flicked a
Baseley McClaskey corner kick into a scrum inside the box where Jackson one-timed a shot into the back of the net. Navy would hold on late versus Loyola, 2-1.
In their 2-1 victory, the Mids were outshot 8-7 by the Greyhounds. Loyola also led Navy in shots on goal, 4-3 and corner kicks, 6-2. Fortson made three saves for the Mids in goal.
Friday's victory was the third in a row for Navy and capped a 2-0 week as the Mids went into D.C. on Monday night and defeated the Howard Bison, 3-2. During this run of play, Jackson scored three goals, while her fellow defender, McClaskey added a goal and three assists. McClaskey has now tallied points in five straight games (4g, 4a) dating back to Sept. 7 and runs her season total to 16 points with six goals and four assists over 11 games.
Jackson & McClaskey Garner Accolades
As a result of her three combined goals versus Howard and Loyola, Jackson was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. This was the second career weekly award for Jackson (Defender of the Week, 10/23/17) and sixth consecutive honor for a Midshipmen defender this season.
On Tuesday, TopDrawerSoccer announced its Team of the Week and recognized McClaskey for her offensive output for the Mids against the Bison and Greyhounds.

2017 Recap
Navy collected its sixth straight win and improved to 3-0 in Patriot League play with a 2-0 victory over American on the road on Sept. 27, 2017. Navy used an explosive second half to break open a scoreless contest at halftime. Coming out after the intermission, the Mids received goals from
Ash Fairow and
Natalie Dzhandzhapanyan to defeat the Eagles.
With the score deadlocked at 0-0 coming out of half, the Mids' constant pressure turned into a goal in the 53rd minute with a goal by Fairow. The scoring play started on the right wing with the ball on the foot of Dzhandzhapanyan. The senior quickly found her senior classmate Clare MacAdam in the middle of the field, who crisply pushed a lead pass to Fairow in space. One-on-one with American's goalkeeper, Fairow dribbled around Ryleigh Brown and put home her shot into an empty net.
Navy closed the game's scoring in the 68th minute when Anabell Motley fought for a loose ball and slotted the ball to Dzhandzhapanyan, who connected for a well struck ball from 18 yards out and beat the goalie to her left.
The Mids outshot the Eagles, 22-4 with a 15-2 mark for shots on goal. Navy was credited with eight corner kicks, while American was blanked.
In goal, Sydney Fortson notched her fourth individual shutout of the 2017 season with two saves.
