Sprint Takes on Penn in Pivotal South Division Game

The Mids can advance to the title game with a win and an Alderson Broaddus loss.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy sprint football team (4-0, 2-0 CSFL South) hosts Penn (3-1, 1-0 CSFL South) in a pivotal Collegiate Sprint Football League South Division game on Friday, Oct. 18, at 7:00 p.m. at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

Live stats and live video will be available throughout the game.

Over the past two seasons, Navy and Penn have finished as the top two teams in the South Division. The Quakers edged the Midshipmen, 28-23, in 2017 to advance to the first CSFL Championship game in league history. The following season, Navy posted a 20-9 victory over Penn to win the South Division and advance to the championship.

Navy and Penn once again enter the game as the top two contenders in the CSFL South Division. With two division games remaining, the Midshipmen are in the driver's seat. The Mids can advance to the title game with a win and an Alderson Broaddus loss.

Should Penn win the game, the Midshipmen can still advance to the championship game. If Navy, Penn, and Caldwell all finish 3-1 in the South Division, Navy would own the tiebreaker based on the Midshipmen's victory over Army West Point – top team in the North / common opponent – earlier this season.

All-Time Series
Navy holds a 73-8-2 (.892) overall record against Penn. The series with the Quakers dates back to 1946 when the Midshipmen claimed a 45-6 victory in Philadelphia. The Mids opened the series with a 14-game unbeaten streak (13-0-1) and were 57-2-2 (.951) in the first 61 games before the Quakers won three straight in the series. Navy is 16-4 (.800) against Penn in the last 20 meetings.

Navy is 35-3-2 (.900) all-time against Penn in Annapolis. The Midshipmen won last year's meeting between the two teams, however, the Quakers claimed the last meeting between the two teams in Annapolis. Navy's last victory against Penn in Annapolis came in 2015 (W, 29-14).
