ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy water polo team (12-8, 4-2 MAWPC-East) heads to the Bronx, N.Y. for a Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference-East match up with No. 16 Fordham (15-4, 4-1) at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center.
Scouting the Midshipmen
Isaac Salinas (Spring City, Pa.) leads the team with 66 goals and 76 points on the season. The sophomore currently has 153 career points on 120 goals and 33 assists. He is first among active players in career points with
Bobby Lee (Santa Ana, Calif.) who is second with 144 points on 112 career goals and 32 assists. Freshmen
Jake Altmayer (Pasadena, Calif.) and
Will Clark (Laguna Beach, Calif.) lead the team with 20 and 17 assists, respectively.
Defensively,
Ronan Williams (Severna Park, Md.) and
Max Sandberg (Newport Beach, Calif.) led the way with 103 and 68 saves, correspondingly. Williams leads the way with 13 games played, while Sandberg has 11 games logged on the year.
Brandon Shields (Lake Forest, Calif.) has played in eight games, chipping in 29 stops.
The Series – Fordham
The Midshipmen lead the Rams, 26-6, in the all-time series. Navy opened the series with 24 straight victories before Fordham posted four straight wins. The Mids and Rams met four times last season, finishing 2-2 against one another on the year. Navy snapped the four-game losing skid to Fordham last season as the Mids posted back-to-back victories (W, 8-7 at Navy Open and W, 9-8 in the Bronx). The Rams won the last two meetings of 2018, including a 15-8 victory in the first round of the 2018 MAWPC Tournament.
Last Time Out
Navy dropped a pair of games by a combined three goals on Saturday at Scott Natatorium. The Midshipmen started the day getting edged by La Salle, 10-8, before closing the day with a one-goal loss, 11-10, to No. 15 Bucknell.
On the day, Navy was led by freshman
Jake Altmayer (Pasadena, Calif.). The rookie finished the day with seven total points to pace the team. He posted a team-high four assists against La Salle, while posting a pair of goals and an assist for a team-best three points against Bucknell.
Isaac Salinas (Spring City, Pa.) led the team with three goals against the Bison. Salinas also notched a goal against La Salle for four points on the day.
Bobby Lee (Santa Ana, Calif.) and
Zach Luci (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) chipped in a pair of goals apiece versus the Bison, while
Trevor Clark (San Marcos, Calif.) led the team with two goals against the Explorers in game one.
Defensively,
Max Sandberg (Newport Beach, Calif.) played nearly the entirety of the two games. The sophomore finished the day with 15 saves, three steals, and a pair of missed shots. Sandberg started the day with seven saves against La Salle, working nearly the entire game between the pipes. He gave way to senior
Brandon Shields (Lake Forest, Calif.) who finished the game with a save and no goals allowed. In the second game, Sandberg tallied eight saves against the nationally ranked Bison with a pair of steals to his credit in a complete-game effort.
