Navy junior striker Jacob Springer has been named the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, while senior quarterback Malcolm Perry was named to the honor roll for their performance in Saturday's 35-3 win over USF.

Springer recorded a season-high seven tackles, a career-high three sacks, a career-high three tackles for a loss and forced a fumble as the Navy defense completely shut down the USF offense.  USF was held to 264 yards of total offense, including just 114 through the air.  The three sacks are tied for the most by a Navy player since 2000. He has recorded at least 1 sack in each of the last 3 games and now leads the team with five.

Perry carried the ball 22 times for 188 yards and two touchdowns and became just the fourth player in school history to surpass 3,000 yards rushing. Perry has now gone over 100 yards rushing 14 times in his career, which is the fourth most in school history, and his 33 career rushing touchdowns are tied for the fifth most in school history.  Perry is averaging 14.0 points per game, which is second in the country behind Jonathan Taylor of Wisconsin (16.3).

Navy (5-1, 3-1 in the AAC) will play host to Tulane (5-2, 2-1 in the AAC) on Saturday afternoon in a key American Athletic Conference West Division game.  Kickoff is set for 3:30 PM at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium and tickets are still available by calling 1-800-US4-NAVY or at navysports.comhttps://navysports.com/sports/2019/1/9/tickets-navy-tickets-m-footbl-html.aspx. A win by Navy would make the Mids bowl eligible for the 15th time in the last 17 years.
