Last Time Out
Navy continued playing its brand of crisp soccer on Saturday, Oct. 26 and for the seventh time in nine games, the team came away with a 1-0 victory as the Mids knocked off the Boston University Terriers in a double overtime thriller at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. Playing its second overtime game in three games, the Mids came away victorious on the strength of aÂ
Baseley McClaskey golden goal in the 106th minute. The Mids' sixth shutout in conference play helped the team secured the 2019 Patriot League regular season title.
Coming out of the locker room to start the second half with the game deadlocked at 0-0, Navy picked up its offensive pace and intensity as the Mids controlled the majority of the possession and tallied the better scoring opportunities. McClaskey was at the forefront of many of these scoring chances as she had solid looks at the goal in both the 53rd and 63rd minutes, unfortunately both shots were a hair wide.Â
Cadie Higginson may have had the best look of the second half as she gained possession of the bounding ball following service from a free kick and ripped a shot on goal that passed Messner, but was swept await at the last moment by a Boston defender at the goal line for a team save in the 70th minute. Less than eight minutes later,Â
Alex Jackson came through with Navy's own team save as she turned aside a Chloee Sagmoe shot on goal that had beatÂ
Sydney Fortson.
Â
After 90 minutes of hard-fought, edge of your seat action, the fans at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility were treated to overtime soccer for the second consecutive home contest. Similar to last week's Saturday morning showdown versus Bucknell, Navy came out in the extra time with a nose for the goal. Within the first 3:30 of the first overtime period, the Mids had already tallied three shots as Higginson, McClaskey and Tran had all struck balls towards the goal, though all just a bit off target and away from danger for Boston's defense. Those first 10 minutes were not enough to decide a victor and the game moved onto a second overtime period. Unlike the first period of extra time, the second period saw fewer scoring chances as neither team recorded a shot for the first five-plus minutes. All of that changed at 105:33 whenÂ
Kristina Dzhandzhapanyan found space in the box to loft a light cross towards the mouth of the goal to a waiting McClaskey, who headed home the ball for the sudden victory golden goal.
For the game, Navy outshot Boston, 21-11 with a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Mids' pressure in the attacking third resulted in five corner kicks on Saturday versus two for the Terriers.
Â
Fortson was credited with two saves to earn her ninth shutout of the season. As a team, the Mids have turned in 12 clean sheets over 18 games and have a 0.38 goals against average. After the NCAA Division I stats were accumulated, Navy now stands seventh in the nation in the GAA category.
Navy vs. Loyola
In a series that dates back to the first-ever NCAA Division I game for Navy on Sept. 4, 1993, the Mids are 8-3-2 all-time against the Greyhounds ... After dropping the first two games of the series in 1993 and 1994, Navy has fallen to Loyola only one time, a Sept. 24, 2016 meeting by a score of 2-1 in double overtime (8-1-2 record) ... Since Loyola joined the Patriot League in 2013, Navy is 3-1-2 in six regular season meetings ... The Mids are 6-1-1 in eight home meetings against the Greyhounds at home.

2018 Recap
Navy went up to Baltimore on Friday, Sept. 21 and came away with a 2-1 win over Loyola courtesy of a pair of goals by junior defenderÂ
Alex Jackson (Centennial, Colo.). Looking to move to 2-0 in Patriot League conference play, Jackson's offensive prowess supplied the Mids (5-3-3, 2-0 PL) with all of the scoring that they would need in the matchup versus the Greyhounds (3-6, 0-2 PL) at the Ridley Athletic Complex. Â
The teams combined for just five total shots in the first half with both the Mids and Greyhounds each putting only one attempt on frame. Both shots on goal were memorable as Jackson made Navy's opportunity count on the scoreboard with her third goal of the 2018 season. Coming as a result of a Loyola foul in its defensive third,Â
Baseley McClaskey started the scoring play with a well-struck free kick into the box whereÂ
Karli Sottung flicked the ball on via header to Jackson, who finished inside the eight-yard box at 32:08.
The action opened up a little more in the second half as both teams registered five shots a piece. Putting two shots on goal during this period, the Mids made their second opportunity leave a mark as Jackson found the back of the net at 80:57 off of a McClaskey corner kick andÂ
Molly Gillcrist volley. This marked the first multi-goal game of Jackson's career, as well as the first collegiate assist for Gillcrist.
Â
Up 2-0 late, Navy withstood a valiant Loyola comeback attempt as the hosts converted a corner kick goal of its own at 84:57 before putting a dangerous game-tying attempt on goal with less than five seconds to go in the game. Once again it was Hannah Hoefs testing
Sydney Fortson and once again the Mids' junior goalkeeper was up to the task as she made the save with just two seconds flashing on the scoreboard.
Â
In their 2-1 victory, the Mids were outshot 8-7 by the Greyhounds. Loyola also led Navy in shots on goal, 4-3 and corner kicks, 6-2.
