CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Navy senior team captain
Jake Brophy (New Hope, Pa.) has continued his excellent final season of cross country action as he was named as the Patriot League M-F Athletic Male Runner of the Week for the third time in 2019. Brophy led Navy's effort at this past Saturday's Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa. This weekly conference honor is the sixth of his decorated career.
Brophy had a standout performance on Saturday against a stout field at the Paul Short Run, that was hosted by Lehigh University. Racing as one of 390 runners, Brophy crossed the finish line with an 8k time of 23:23.0 that ranked second overall. On the strength of Brophy and
Kevin Murray's fourth-place result, Navy finished sixth of 45 teams in the nationwide competition. The duo cleared the next Patriot League runner, Army's Ben Petrella by 29.1 seconds.
Brophy and his Midshipmen teammates will be away from competition this weekend with their focus solely on next Friday's Army-Navy Star Meet. The action in Wappingers Falls, N.Y. is set for 5 p.m. at Bowdoin Park.
