BRIDGEPORT, Pa. – The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) announced its weekly award winners and Navy's
Isaac Salinas (Spring City, Pa.) and
Will Clark (Laguna Beach, Calif.) were selected as Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
The accolades are the first of the season for Navy. The duo helped Navy to a 4-1 record over the weekend, including a perfect 4-0 mark at the 2019 Gary Troyer Memorial Tournament.
Salinas led the team with 19 goals in five games (3.8 per game), registering a hat trick in all five games on the weekend. He opened the weekend with a team-best five goals in a 13-12 victory over Air Force. Tied 12-12 with Air Force, Salinas scored the game-winning goal with just under a minute to play. The sophomore scored a team-high three goals against Chapman, leading the Mids to a 19-11 win. Salinas continued his hot play on Saturday with a team-high three goals against Redlands and five goals against Concordia to lead Navy to a pair of 13-11 victories. Against No. 10 Loyola Marymount, he scored three of Navy's nine goals.
Clark tallied 12 points in five games, scoring seven goals and adding five assists. He recorded a pair of hat tricks over the weekend – the first of his career. Clark opened the weekend with a team-best two assists in Navy's 13-12 victory over Air Force. The freshman scored a team-high three goals against Chapman while adding an assist for four points in the win. Clark notched a team-high three goals against Redlands, while leading the team with two assists against Concordia. He finished the weekend by scoring a goal against No. 10 LMU.
Navy returns to action on Friday, Oct. 11, as the Midshipmen resume conference play at Johns Hopkins at 7:00 p.m. in Baltimore, Md. The Mids take on La Salle (12:00 p.m.) and Bucknell (6:00 p.m.) in Annapolis on Sunday in MAWPC-East action.
