ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– Navy's Derrick Thompson (So., Towson, Md.) and Andrew Ton (Jr., Milpitas, Calif.) each won first-round matches at the Lakewood Ranch Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic this weekend in Sarasota, Fla.
 
Thompson won a three-set match over Florida State's Bryn Nahrung, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (11-9) in the first round.  He would fall in the round of 16 to Florida's Blaise Bicknell, 6-4, 6-2.
 
Ton advanced out of the round of 32 with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Michigan's Ryan Fu.  He lost in the second round, 6-2, 6-3, to Florida's Joshua Goodger.
 
After losing his main draw match, Greg Durham (Sr., Melbourne Beach, Fla.) posted a 6-3, 6-2, victory over Notre Dame's Conor Somers in the first round of the consolation draw.  He then fell, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6), in the second round to Louisville's Matthew Fung.
 
Navy also sent several players to Williamsburg, Va., to compete in the Tribe Invite against players from Richmond, Penn, VCU and William & Mary.  Recording victories were Romesh Kahatapitiya (Jr., Virginia Beach, Va.) and Peter Lohrbach (Jr., Little Neck, N.Y.) in singles and the doubles team of Jake Fishkin (So., Baltimore, Md.) and Finn Garner (Fr., Arnold, Md.).
 
Navy will close its fall season this weekend by playing host to an invitational and competing in a tournament at Liberty.
