Swimming and Diving to Welcome League Foes to Annapolis Saturday

ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– The Navy swimming and diving teams will face Patriot League competition for the first time this season when the Mids play host to American, Bucknell and Lafayette Saturday in Annapolis.  The meet begins at noon in Lejeune Hall.

The Navy women's team enters the meet with a 6-1 record on the season.  The Mids, who will be competing for the first time in three weeks, swept the Eagles, Bison and Leopards when the teams met last season in Lewisburg, Pa.  Navy defeated American by the score of 260-58, Bucknell by the count of 214.5-101.5, and Lafayette by the score of 270-42.

Navy's lone blemish on the year was a season-opening defeat to a Michigan team that is currently ranked 11th nationally.

"We are excited to compete against some league teams following three weeks of good training," said Navy women's swimming head coach John Morrison.  "American, Bucknell, and Lafayette continue to move up in the league.  We will have to race well and be on the top of our game to compete with them.  It should be a great time in Lejeune!"

The Navy men's squad was in action last weekend.  The Mids had a strong showing in a 175-125 loss to No. 20 Auburn.  Navy's only other defeat this year was a loss to current No. 6 Michigan.  The Mids have posted a 5-2 record on the year heading into the weekend.

The Navy men also defeated each of its league foes last season in the meet held at Bucknell.  The Mids recorded wins of 215-73 over American, 210-84 over Bucknell and 215-67 over Lafayette.

"As we saw again last weekend," said Navy men's swimming head coach Bill Roberts, "the little things have a big impact on the final result of a race.  We are looking to apply what we learned against Auburn and all season long this weekend.  Facing league teams at this time of year is always a good measuring stick for where we will need to be come February and the league championship."

As for the three visiting teams, American's women's team has posted a 1-2 record and its men's team is 0-3, both Bucknell teams are undefeated in three dual meets this year and each Lafayette squad has lost its only dual meet to date.
