CLEVELAND, Ohio ––
Sydney Harrington (Fr., Fairfax, Va.) advanced to the championship final in three events and
Jamie Miller (Jr., Rochester Hills, Mich.) broke her own school record to pace the efforts for the seven members of the Navy women's swimming team who competed at the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America National Invitational that concluded Saturday in Cleveland, Ohio. The Mids totaled 335.5 points to place fifth out of the 47 teams that scored points at the meet.
The final team scores included swimming results from this meet along with scores based upon results from divers competing at the various NCAA Zone Diving Championships also held this week.
"We are extremely proud of our seven swimmers who were invited to this meet," said Navy women's swimming head coach
John Morrison.
The field utilized a 10-lane pool for all events –– as opposed to the traditional eight-lane pool –– contested this week on the Cleveland State campus.
Harrington finished in fifth place in the 100 fly final and ninth in both the 50 butterfly (24.75) and 200 fly (2:01.90) finals.
Delaney Walz (Jr., Mays Landing, N.J.) joined Harrington in reaching the championship final in multiple events. She placed third in both the 100 fly (53.72) and 200 fly (1:58.27).
"It was impressive to see Delaney finish third in two events," said Morrison.
Additional finalists for the Mids were
Kelly Huffer (Fr., Phoenix, Ariz.), fifth in the 200 fly (1:59.94); Miller, sixth in the 100 backstroke (54.72); and
Erin Scudder (Jr., Western Springs, Ill.), ninth in the 500 freestyle (4:52.98)
Miller broke her own Navy record in the 100 backstroke during the trial heats for the event. Her time of 54.04 bettered her previous school standard of 54.07. She had to withdraw from events on Saturday due to illness.
Navy's 800 freestyle relay team of Harrington,
Sarah Sorensen (Fr., Kennesaw, Ga.), Scudder and
Casey Lawson (Sr., Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) combined for a seventh-place showing in the timed final with its effort of 7:25.19.
"A huge congratulations to Casey for leading the team this week and for closing the meet and her career with a very fast split in the 400 free relay," said Morrison.
