ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– The Navy (23-13, 2-0 Patriot League) men's tennis team recorded victories over Boston U. (6-12, 1-1) and Rider (2-7) on Sunday.  The Mids defeated the Terriers by the score of 4-1 in a league match played in Winchester, Mass., and the Broncs by the count of 7-0 in Annapolis.
 
Navy took an early 1-0 lead on Boston U. by winning the doubles point.  Greg Durham (Jr., Melbourne Beach, Fla.) and Jake Fishkin (Fr., Baltimore, Md.) combined for a 6-1 win over Ethan Kosky and Max Stehling at No. 3 doubles in the first match to finish.  Jack Dabek (Fr., Dublin, Ohio) and Andrew Ton (So., Milpitas, Calif.) would defeat Owen Lu and Pete Siozios, 6-2, at the No. 1 flight to give the Mids the point.
 
The remaining match at No. 2 doubles between Navy's Peter Lohrbach (So., Little Neck, N.Y.) and Derrick Thompson (Fr., Towson, Md.) and Boston's J.P. Avila and Max Hartenstein was tied at 5-5 when play was halted.
 
"Our number one and three teams were able to get some early breaks of serve and hold them the rest of the sets," said Navy head coach Chris Garner.
 
Navy then won three singles matches in straight sets to come away with the victory.  Thompson was leading at match point in his No. 2 singles match against Stehling, 6-2, 5-2, 40-30, when Stehling defaulted.  Lohrbach won, 6-4, 6-2, over Kolsky at No. 6 singles to take the Mids to three points.  Fishkin closed out play when he registered a 6-2, 6-4 win over Pedro Gutierrez at No. 5 singles.  Additionally, Ton held a 6-2, 5-2 lead on Lu when their No. 1 singles match was stopped.
 
"Derrick and Peter played well in winning in straight sets to get us to three points," said Garner.  "Andrew and Jake were both working to try and win in straight sets, too.  Jake was the first to cross the finish line to clinch the match."
 
Navy lost a combined six games in sweeping the three doubles matches from Rider.  Romesh Kahatapitiya (So., Virginia Beach, Va.) and Sam Vager (Fr., Staten Island, N.Y.) earned a 6-1 win at the No. 1 flight, then the No. 2 tandem of Jan Kjellberg (Fr., White Plains, N.Y.) and Conners O'Brien (Fr., Rensselaer, N.Y.) won a 6-2 decision to award the point to the Mids.  The last match on the courts saw Andrew Hicks (Sr., Haddon Heights, N.J.) and Cameron Kirkpatrick (Sr., Menlo Park, Calif.) win by the score of 6-3.
 
"The second and third doubles matches were much closer than the final score indicates," said Navy associate head coach John Moreland.  "We were able to pull away at the end in both of them."
 
Navy then won each of the six singles matches, with the Mids allowing the Broncs to win no more than three games in any of the contests.
 
"The guys responded well in singles by coming out with good energy and setting a tone early," said Moreland.  "That carried through to solid and convincing victories at each flight."
 
Navy will play road league matches at Saturday at both Holy Cross and Bucknell.
