ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Christian Hodge (Sr., Winder, Ga.) earned a pair of weekly accolades after being selected as National Player of the Week by
Collegiate Baseball and being named the Patriot League Player of the Week.
Joe Simourian (Fr., Andover, Mass.) also grabbed a weekly award and earned Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors.
Noah Song (Sr., Claremont, Calif.) also picked up a midseason All-American nod by
Perfect Game this week.
Hodge earns his first career national honor, while he picks up his second league award of the season and third of his career. Simourian garners his first career weekly nod by the Patriot League. To end the 2018 season, Song was an Honorable Mention All-American by
Perfect Game.
The trio paced the Midshipmen to a 4-0 record last week, which included a win at Georgetown and a three-game sweep at Lafayette. During the four games last week, Navy's offense compiled 57 runs on the road.
At the plate, Hodge was an even .500 with nine hits and five of them being home runs. The senior captain also chipped in with a double and racked up 16 RBIs in the four games. Hodge hit one home run against the Hoyas last Wednesday and finished with four long balls in Saturday's doubleheader at Lafayette. He slugged 1.389 to lead the team and scored seven times.
On the season, Hodge leads the team with 35 RBIs and eight home runs. He now has 18 home runs in his career, which ranks fourth all-time in the program record books.
Last week, Simourian led the Navy offense with a .615 batting average in four appearances and three starts. He also led the way with a .706 on-base percentage. The freshman went 8-for-13 with a pair of RBIs, to go along with a double and his first collegiate home run against Lafayette on Saturday. In his 12 times on base, he scored seven times. During his freshman campaign, Simourian has a .326 batting average with five RBIs and nine runs scored in his 23 appearances and 12 starts.
Along with the Hodge and Simourian earning accolades this week, Song was an honorable mention honoree this week by the Patriot League.
Also on Wednesday morning, Song was selected to
Perfect Game's Midseason Second Team All-American list. Song leads the nation with 90 strikeouts in 46-2/3 innings of work. The senior has four complete games and hold a record of 5-0 and leads the Patriot League with a 1.54 ERA. This past weekend, Song set the program record for career strikeouts as he broke a 58-year old record and now has 357 strikeouts in his career.
To start the season, Song has notched at least 10 strikeouts in each of his seven starts this season. He is also limiting batters to hit just .158 at the plate this season.
Navy is back in action Wednesday night against UMBC at 6 p.m. in Baltimore, Md. The Midshipmen return home this weekend to host Holy Cross for a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday.
