ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy track and field 4x400m relay team of
Eric Hughey (Lee's Summit, Mo.),
Simon Petsch (Billings, Mont.),
Cameron Hurd (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), and
John Finnegan (Spring, Texas) were named the Naval Academy Athletic Association (NAAA) Athletes of the Week, presented by Northrop Grumman.
The relay team combined for a school-record time of 3:07.24 to finish 11th overall in the 4x400m and qualify for nationals in the last heat of the last race of the day at the NCAA East Preliminaries at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla. Navy will now send the 4x400m relay team to the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas.
The foursome broke their own school record that they set at the Penn Relays when they topped the original record mark set back in 1979. The quartet of Hughey, Petsch, Hurd, and Finnegan hold four of Navy's top five performances in the 4x400m relay.
