Malcolm Perry Earns Five Honors For His Play Against East Carolina

Malcolm Perry was named American Athletic Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week, Naval Academy Athletic Association Athlete of the Week, Davey O'Brien Award Great 8, was one of eight players named the Manning Award Star of the Week and earned a helmet sticker from ESPN.

Perry was sensational on Saturday in Navy's 42-10 victory over East Carolina, rushing for 156 yards and four touchdowns on 24 carries, while completing five of his seven pass attempts for 151 yards and two touchdowns.  Perry was the first Navy player to rush for over 150 yards and pass for over 150 yards since Ricky Dobbs accomplished the feat against Arkansas State in 2010.  Perry's six touchdowns accounted for was the most since Keenan Reynolds accounted for seven (six rushing and one passing) against Georgia Southern in 2014. One of his two touchdown passes was an 80-yard strike to CJ Williams, which was the longest pass by a Navy quarterback since Dobbs hit Greg Jones in that same Arkansas State game for 85 yards.

Perry shares the AAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week with UCF's Dillon Garbriel, who completed 22 of his 30 pass attempts for 347 yards and four touchdowns in a 45-27 rout of Stanford.

Perry beat out the men's golf duo of Thomas Garbee and Charlie Musto and women's golfer Shannon Gould for NAAA Athlete of the Week.  Garbee and Musto shared individual medalist honors at the Doc Gimmler Invitational as they helped lead Navy to the team title by setting school records on back-to back days (3-under par 277 on the opening round, 6-under par 274 on Sunday). Gould won her first career tournament this past weekend at the Bucknell Invitational, setting a program record in a 54-hole tournament (217). Gould helped lead Navy to its third title in the last five tournaments.

Perry was one of three AAC quarterbacks to be named to the Davey O'Brien Award Great 8 joining Gabriel and Anthony Russo of Temple.  Other quarterbacks honored include Jack Abraham of Southern Miss, Ian Book of Notre Dame, Quentin Harris of Duke, Jalen Hurts of Oklahoma and Tua Tagovailoa of Alabama.

Perry joins Abraham, Gabriel, Anthony Gordon of Washington State, Hurts, Chris Robison of Florida Atlantic, Carter Stanley of Kansas and Tagovailoa on the Manning Award Stars of the Week.  Fans can go to the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page to vote for their choice as the overall Manning Award Quarterback of the Week by 12 noon on Thursday. Perry was also recognized by ESPN for his play, receiving a helmet sticker on Sunday morning as one of the standouts of the day in college football.

Navy is off this week before traveling to Memphis next Thursday in a nationally televised game on ESPN. Kickoff is set for 8 PM (ET).
