Star on the Line as Sprint Travels to Army West Point

Sprint football takes on Army West Point in the first Star Series game of the year.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy sprint football team (1-0) heads north to West Point, N.Y. for the annual star game with Army West Point (1-0) as part of the Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Shea Stadium. Live video will be available for free via Army West Point's Knight Vision, while live stats will also be available throughout the game.

All-Time Series
Navy holds the all-time series record, 43-36-1. Last season, the Black Knights edged the Midshipmen, 17-14, in the Star game in Annapolis. Navy was able to get some revenge on its rivals, by claiming the 2018 Collegiate Sprint Football League Championship.

Navy posted a 24-10 victory over rival Army West Point to claim the CSFL title in the second annual Championship Game, played at the Torne Valley Sports Complex in Hillburn, N.Y. In the game, Navy outgained Army West Point, 361-287, including a 289-16 advantage on the ground. Defensively, the Midshipmen tallied 53 total tackles, including 5.0 tackles for loss, and 3.0 sacks. The defense broke up 12 passes, recorded an interception, and blocked a punt.

Despite holding the overall record in the series, Navy is just 13-15-1 all-time in West Point. The last win for the Midshipmen in West Point came in November of 2011 as the Mids posted a 28-6 win over the Black Knights.

2019 Team Captains
This season, Navy will be led by a pair of senior captains – Troy Monroe (Columbus, Ga.) and J.T. Thompson (Stratham, N.H.). Monroe, a 2018 Second Team All-CSFL selection, will serve as the defensive captain, while Thompson will be the offensive representative.

Sprint Football Tradition
The Navy sprint football team has 37 Collegiate Sprint Football League championships (30 outright) in the program's 73-year history – the most among any school in league history. The team boasts an all-time winning percentage of .831, including a 112-13 (.896) mark since 2001, including 79-10 (.888) in CSFL play.

The Midshipmen have totaled more than 388 All-CSFL honors over the last 18 seasons, with a Navy player being selected as the league's MVP eight times during this span.
