ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy water polo team (2-2) will take on Austin College (0-4) on Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at Scott Natatorium. The game was added to the schedule late in the preseason.
The Midshipmen enter the game 2-2 overall on the season after picking up a pair of victories at the Navy Open over the weekend. The Mids dropped a pair of games to No. 2 Stanford (L, 26-3) and No. 2 UCLA (L, 20-7), but rallied to pick up wins against Johns Hopkins (W, 19-8) and Iona (W, 18-9).
The 'Roos also competed in the 2019 Navy Open. Austin College went winless, dropping decisions to Johns Hopkins (L, 15-10), La Salle (L, 14-11), No. 12 Princeton (L, 18-5), and Fordham (L, 21-4).
The Series
The two teams have never competed against one another in water polo. Austin College announced in 2017 the addition of water polo as one of its collegiate sports. The 'Roos competed as a club in 2017-18, with the intent to become an NCAA varsity program in 2018-19.
Scouting the Midshipmen
Isaac Salinas (Spring City, Pa.) leads the team with 13 goals on the season. Salinas was the only player on the team to record at least one goal in all four contests over the weekend, finishing with hat tricks in the final three games of the weekend.
Aside from Salinas, 14 different Midshipmen scored on the weekend, including
Jake Altmayer (Pasadena, Calif.),
Jamie Cassidy (Greenwich, Conn.),
Will Clark (Laguna Beach, Calif.),
Peter Hillen (Orinda, Calif.),
Zach Luci (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.), and
Merle Richman (La Jolla, Calif.) who scored their first collegiate goals.
