Track and Field Posts Strong Performance in Final Tune Up Before Army

As a team, the Midshipmen tallied 31 IC4A / ECAC qualifying times / marks, while also recording seven performances that rank in the all-time Navy top 10.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – In the final meet before Army, the Navy track and field team notched a solid performance at the Navy Invitational II on Saturday at the Wesley A. Brown Field House. As a team, the Midshipmen tallied 31 IC4A / ECAC qualifying times / marks, while also recording seven performances that rank in the all-time Navy top 10.

"I think we got some work done today to prepare us for next week against Army," Director of Navy Track and Field Jamie Cook said after the meet. "We didn't compete a lot of people, but I thought we were pretty solid overall. There are obviously things we can continue to improve on, but morale is good. We just have to be ready to go next week."

The Navy men registered 19 IC4A qualifiers, while the women notched 12 ECAC qualifiers on the day.

On the women's side, Regine Tugade (Dededo, Guam) notched a pair of top 10 performances in the 60m dash. The senior captain tied for fifth all-time in the 60m dash with a time of 7.65, while posting a time of 7.67 in the preliminaries to tie for 10th in program history.

The 200m dash saw freshman Molly Mangan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) recorded the third fastest time with a time of 24.57, while Chloe Alfieri (Harvard, Mass.) notched the 10th best time in Navy history in the 400m dash with a time of 55.81.

Charlene Morke (Isanti, Minn.) tied her own season-best performance with the second-best height in the Navy annals with a jump of 4.00m (13-01.50) in the pole vault.

On the men's side, Clayton Thompson (Corpus Christi, Texas) posted a pair of top 10 performances. Thompson remained the only student-athlete in Navy history to clock a sub-eight second time in the 60m hurdles. Thompson registered the fourth fastest performance in school history in the preliminaries of the hurdles with a time of 7.97. The junior shaved a hundredth of a second off his prelim time to clock a 7.96 and tie for the school's second fastest performance.

Navy returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 8, as the Midshipmen host rival Army West Point in the annual Army-Navy Indoor Star Series Meet, which is part of the star series, presented by USAA. America's Meet begins with the men's field events at 11:00 a.m., while the women's meet is slated for 2:30 p.m. at Wesley A. Brown Field House.
