Track and Field Earns Numerous Weekly Honors

Navy won four of six Patriot League weekly honors, while also having NAAA Co-Athletes of the Week.

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Navy track and field team claimed four of the Patriot League's six weekly honors as announced by the conference office. John Finnegan (Spring, Texas) was named Men's Track Athlete of the Week, while Ariana McKenzie (Potomac, Md.) was selected as the Female Field Athlete of the Week. Freshmen Caden Dailey (Centreville, Va.) and Molly Mangan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) were named Male and Female Rookie of the Week, respectively.
 
In addition to the Patriot League distinction, Dailey and Mangan were named NAAA Co-Athletes of the Week presented by Northrop Grumman for their efforts over the weekend against Army in America's Meet, which is part of the annual Star Series presented by USAA.
 
As a team, the Midshipmen picked up a pair of Stars against the Black Knights. The men's track and field team put together a dominating victory, 109-71, while the women's squad won their first indoor Star Meet since 2014 (W, 93-80).
 
Finnegan tallied 10 points with a pair of first place finishes. The senior captain posted an IC4A time of 1:03.68 in the 500m dash to win the event by over one second (1.04) as Navy swept the top two spots to earn maximum points in the event. The time in the 500m dash was the fastest of the season for the Midshipmen in the senior's first time running the event this year. In addition, he ran the anchor leg of the 4x400m relay that posted an IC4A qualifying time of 3:14.15 to win the event. The time in the 4x400m relay was the second fastest of the year for Navy.
 
McKenzie posted a school-record distance of 19.04m (62-05.75) in the weight throw to win the opening event of the meet and help Navy to the victory. She broke the previous school record that was set back in 2004 by 0.52m and topped her previous best throw of 18.24 (2019) by 0.80m. McKenzie's throw currently ranks 64th in NCAA Division I this season.
 
Dailey scored eight points individually to help lead the Mids to a win. The freshman claimed first place in the long jump with the third best distance in program history, recording a mark of 7.46m (24-05.75) for five points in the event. Dailey finished second in the 60m dash with an IC4A qualifying time of  6.93 to help Navy sweep the top two spots in the event and earn maximum points.
 
Mangan competed in three events setting a pair of school records with a third all-time top 5 performance in Navy history. The freshman recorded 10 points on the day, helping the Mids to a 13-point victory. She combined with Chelsey Edwards (Schertz, Texas), Kara Kakascik (Weirton, W.Va.), and Chloe Alfieri (Harvard, Mass.) to set the school record in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:42.73, besting their previous record by nearly two seconds to win the event. Mangan came in second place in the 200m dash, but notched a school-record time of 24.42 to break the previous Navy record by 0.04 seconds. She finished third in the 60m dash with a time of 7.60 behind teammate Regine Tugade (Dededo, Guam), who set the school record in the event (7.57), to notch the third best time in program history in the event.
