ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy track and field team completed its final tune up before the Patriot League Indoor Championship next week with the annual Navy Select on Friday at Wesley A. Brown Field House in Annapolis, Md. The Midshipmen finished the day with a pair of school records and 17 IC4A / ECAC qualifying times / marks.
Â
"I think the people that competed today were excited to compete," Director of Navy Track and Field
Jamie Cook said after the meet. "It was a great effort and excitement within the team. For some of our athletes that don't always get a chance to compete, it was great to have all of the athletes cheering them on. We had a few PRs and a couple of school records. That was impressive to see. Very exciting to see heading into the Patriot League Championship."
Â
The meet was highlighted by a pair of school records.
Â
Freshman
Charlene Morke (Isanti, Minn.) broke the Navy pole vault record with a jump of 4.08m (13-04.50). She edged the previous mark of 4.07m (13-04.25), which was set by Jacqui Charnigo in 2008.
Â
In addition to Morke,
Regine Tugade (Dededo, Guam) reclaimed her 200m dash school record. Freshman
Molly Mangan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) originally broke Tugade's 2019 record in the 200m dash (24.46) against Army West Point in the annual Army-Navy Star Series Meet with a time of 24.42. Tugade regained the record with a time of 24.31.
Â
Sam Orie (Greensburg, Pa.) added a top 10 all-time performance in the shot put, tying for seventh with a throw of 14.12m (46.04.00).
Â
On the men's side, Clayton Thompson (Corpus Christi, Texas) once again tied for the third best time in Navy history in the 60m hurdles, clocking a time of 7.96
