ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– The Navy men's tennis team lost a pair of close matches Saturday on the road.  The Mids (11-5) lost at Yale (3-5), 5-2, and at Drexel (6-4), 4-3.
 
Navy earned the doubles point over Yale thanks to wins at the Nos. 1 and 3 flights.  Jake Fishkin (So., Baltimore, Md.) and Finn Garner (Fr., Arnold, Md.) evened up the doubles matches with their 6-3 win at the No. 3 flight.  Derrick Thompson (So., Towson, Md.) and Andrew Ton (Jr., Milpitas, Calif.) followed with a victory in a tiebreaker to place the first point on the scoreboard.
 
Thompson then won a 6-4, 6-1 decision at No. 2 singles to make the score 2-0, but the Mids would lose four straight-set matches and one match in three singles to suffer the loss.
 
Navy also took a 1-0 lead in its match against Drexel on the strength of its doubles play.  Matthew Lee (Sr., San Diego, Calif.) and Conners O'Brien (So., Rensselaer, N.Y.) won their No. 3 flighted match by the score of 6-3, then Jan Kjellberg (So., White Plains, N.Y.) and Reilly Wilson (Fr., Greensboro, N.C.) won a 6-3 decision at the No. 2 flight.
 
After the Dragons won the first two singles matches to finish, Lee tied the match at 2-2 when he won, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 5 singles.  Drexel would post two more straight-set wins to close out the match.
 
Navy will play two matches on Sunday. The Mids will play host to Howard at 10 a.m. in the Tose Family Tennis Center and at NJIT at noon in Newark, N.J.
