MORGANTOWN, W.Va. –– Navy's
Bradley Buchter (Sr., Hickory, N.C.) won the one-meter competition at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championship, Tuesday in Morgantown, W.Va. The result qualifies Buchter for a second event in the March 26-28 NCAA Championship to be held in Indianapolis, Ind.
Tuesday's result comes one day after Buchter won the three-meter event to qualify for the national championship for the fourth time in his career. He totaled 765.60 points today to win the event by 93 points to qualify for the NCAA Championship on a second board this year and for the ninth event in his career. Only Nate Smith, who reached the national meet in three events in each of his four seasons (1993-96), qualified for more diving events at the championship in a career than Buchter.
Also competing in the men's one-meter event were Navy's
Jake Hedrick (Jr., Hummelstown, Pa.) and
Lance Christopher (Fr., Lambertville, N.J.). Hedrick scored 277.15 points to place 20th and Christopher totaled 216.95 points to finish in 39th place.
The women's event held on Tuesday was the three-meter board.
Hannah Montau (So., Germantown, Md.) placed 18th with a score of 271.55 in the preliminary rounds of diving to reach the finals. She ended the day in 12th place with a 12-dive score of 553.40. Additionally,
Meghan Gerdes (Jr., Spring, Texas) placed 33rd (243.40) and
Caroline Turner (So., Phoenixville, Pa.) placed 42nd (230.45).
The three-day event concludes Wednesday at 11 a.m. with platform diving.
