SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Navy track and field team swept the 2020 San Diego Collegiate Championship on Saturday at Triton Stadium on the campus of UC San Diego. The Midshipmen men finished first out of five teams, while the Mids' women were first out of seven squads.
 
The men's team tallied 165 total points to post a three-point victory over host UC San Diego (162). UC Santa Barbara came in third with 147 points, while Cal State San Marcos (48) and CSUN (30) rounded out the scorers. The women's team registered 167 points to win by 47 over UC Santa Barbara (120). UC San Diego was third with 108.5, while Cal State San Marcos came in fourth with 66.5 ahead of San Diego State (57). CSUN (21) and Point Loma (14) closed out the scoring on the women's side.
 
On the day, the Navy men picked up first place finishes in the 100m dash (Evan Lexo), 200m dash (Eric Hughey), 400m dash (Eric Hughey), 110m hurdles (Clayton Thompson), 400m hurdles (Clayton Thompson), 4x100m relay (Clayton Thompson, Caden Dailey, Evan Lexo, Eric Hughey), shot put (John Barber), hammer throw (Tommy Reeder), discus (John Barber), javelin (Hayden Fox).
 
The women's side saw the Midshipmen earning victories in the 100m dash (Regine Tugade), 200m dash (Regine Tugade), 400m dash (Chelsey Edwards), 100m hurdles (Alexa Arthun), 4x100m relay (Regine Tugade, Chelsey Edwards, Molly Mangan, Sabrina Sutter), pole vault (Charlene Morke), and javelin (Emma Foster).
 
The men's team posted a meet record in the 4x100m relay as Clayton Thompson (Corpus Christi, Texas), Caden Dailey (Centreville, Va.), Evan Lexo (Groton, Mass.), and Eric Hughey (Lee's Summit, Mo.) combined for a time of 41.13. John Barber (Sugar Land, Texas) notched the meet record in the shot put with a throw of 17.38m (57-00.25).
 
In the women's javelin, Emma Foster (Poteet, Texas) notched a meet-record distance of 48.53m (159-02) to win the event. The distance was the fifth longest in Navy history.
 
Navy continues its California Spring Break this week, training and participating in team-bonding out in San Diego. The Midshipmen return to competition on Saturday, March 14, as the team takes part in the annual Ross and Sharon Irwin Collegiate Scoring Meet.
