ANNAPOLIS, Md. – With the unforeseen conclusion to the 2019-20 competition season for all collegiate teams, the Naval Academy Athletic Department is recognizing and honoring the student-athletes and seniors from Navy, who had their seasons cut short. The next program to be recognized is Navy men's track and field.
The Mids' Class of 2020 is 15 members strong and has found success throughout its three-plus seasons of competition. Over the last three and a half seasons, the Navy men's track and field team has won six Patriot League Championships (Indoor – 2017, '18, '20; Outdoor – 2017, '18, '19), while earning five stars (Indoor – 2018, '20; Outdoor – 2017, '18, '19) during the annual Army-Navy Star Meet, which is part of the overall Star Series presented by USAA.
During the Patriot League Championships, the men's track and field team combined for 108 total All-Patriot League performances. The Mids registered 63 first-place finishes (Indoor – 33; Outdoor – 30) to claim individual and relay championships, while earning 45 second-place nods (Indoor – 24; Outdoor – 21). The men's track and field team earned 11 major student-athlete awards at the Patriot League Championships claiming Track Athlete of the Meet (3x), Field Athlete of the Meet (2x), Rookie of the Meet (3x), and Top Point Scorer of the Meet (3x).
In addition, the Navy men's track and field team won the IC4A Outdoor Championship in back-to-back seasons (2018, '19), marking the first time that Navy won back-to-back IC4A titles since the Midshipmen won three straight in 1944, 1945, and 1946. During the 2019 outdoor season, the Midshipmen won an event at the prestigious Penn Relays for the first time in 73 years as the Mids won the shuttle hurdle relay at historic Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa.
John Finnegan (Spring, Texas) and
