ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy sprint football head coach
Major Jason Dewald, USMC announced that rising seniors
Grant Hooper (Huntingtown, Md.) and
Jim Kenneally (Elmhurst, Ill.) will be team captains for the 2020 campaign. Hooper will serve as the defensive captain, while Kenneally will captain the offense.
"I am blessed to have been voted captain for the 2020 season," Hooper said. "It is a responsibility that I do not take lightly because I represent my current team, as well as those who have gone before me. We have been thrown in some uncharted waters throughout this offseason, but I'm thankful to have Major Dewald and Jimmy to work with. I look forward to getting all of the guys back here on campus and getting to work."
"I am very excited for the opportunity and challenge that comes with being a captain for the Navy sprint football team," Kenneally said. "It is an extraordinary privilege to be selected by my teammates to help us reach our goals. We have a great group of seniors that are equally deserving of this position and will make our job easy in the fall. Grant and I are already working hard to ensure that the team can finish the season as league champions and add to the 75-year culture of excellence. We are driven by our shortcomings last season and cannot wait to get the team back together and begin playing the game we love with the people we love."
Hooper is a two-time First Team All-Collegiate Sprint Football League selection, earning the distinction in 2018 and 2019. The rising senior has played in all 24 games of his career, making 60 total tackles, including 44 solo stops as a defensive back. Hooper has registered five interceptions, including three last year, while recording 13 pass breakups, a forced fumble, and three fumble recoveries in his career.
Kenneally is also a two-time First Team All-CSFL honoree (2018, '19). He anchors an offensive line that has tallied 7,820 total yards in three seasons, including 4,540 rushing yards and 3,280 passing yards. In three years, Kenneally has played in 22 games with 19 starts, helping the Midshipmen tally 95 offensive touchdowns, including 57 rushing TDs and an additional 38 scores through the air.
