Swimming and Diving Teams Home Friday; Harrington and Montau Earn League Laurels

ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– The Navy swimming and diving teams (both 0-1) will open their home seasons Friday when they play host to Johns Hopkins (men: 1-1, women: 0-2) and Towson (men: 0-0, women: 1-0) at 4 p.m. in Lejeune Hall.  Live results from the meet will be available through the Meet Mobile app.

Additionally, Navy's Sydney Harrington (Sr., Fairfax, Va.) and Hannah Montau (Sr., Germantown, Md.) earned the first weekly awards from the Patriot League this season as Harrington was named the league's swimmer of the week and Montau earned the diver-of-the-week accolade.  

Attending Friday's Meet
Fans attending the meet need to park outside of the USNA and walk through the gate one visitors center.  A photo ID needs to be displayed to enter.  Those 17 and under need to be with an adult to gain access.

COVID-19 Policy
 As per Department of Defense regulations, those who have not been vaccinated for COVID-19 must wear a mask at all times when on the USNA grounds and those who have been vaccinated have the option to wear a mask while outdoors but must wear a mask while indoors.  

About Navy – Men (0-1)
Navy opened its season with a 181-119 loss at Penn State on Saturday.  The team won four races and totaled eight second-place showings in individual events.  Winning events for the Mids were Everet Andrew (Fr., Wilmette, Ill.), 1000 freestyle; Caleb Mauldin (Sr., Chesapeake, Va.), 100 backstroke; Garrett McGovern (So., Nashville, Tenn.), 500 freestyle; and Patrick Colwell (So., New Canaan, Conn.), 100 butterfly.

About Navy – Women (0-1)
The women's team also was dealt a loss by Penn State last weekend.  The Nittany Lions defeated the Mids, 209-81.  Harrington and Montau were the lone members of the Navy team to win an event during the meet.  Placing second in events for the Mids were Martina Thomas (Sr., Fayetteville, Ark.), 200 and 500 freestyle; Montau, one-meter board; Emily Brockman (Sr., Bend, Ore.), 200 breaststroke; and Haley Harris (Fr., St. John's, Fla.), 200 individual medley.

Harrington and Montau Honored
The duo earned their respective award for their performances during Navy's season-opening meet at Penn State Saturday.  Harrington won both butterfly events against the Nittany Lions, winning the 100 fly (54.60) by 1.30 seconds and the 200 fly (2:00.82) by three-quarters of a second.  Montau won the three-meter board by 27.43 points, with her score of 309.08 qualifying her for the 2022 NCAA Zone A Diving Championship.  She needed to either equal or surpass 280 points to qualify for the March meet.  Montau also placed second by 6.45 points in the one-meter event with her score of 255.15 points.

About Johns Hopkins – Men (1-1)
Johns Hopkins began the 2021-22 season by splitting meets at UMBC.  The Blue Jays defeated the host Retrievers, 168-120, and lost to Delaware, 158-136.  Of particular note with the team scores is that Johns Hopkins does not field a diving team.

The Blue Jays competed in just one meet during the abbreviated 2020-21 campaign.  The team defeated NJIT, 178-112.

Navy defeated Johns Hopkins, 207-80, two seasons ago.

About Johns Hopkins – Women (0-2)
The Blue Jays suffered losses to both UMBC and Delaware last weekend.  The Retrievers defeated Johns Hopkins, 157.5-122.5, and the Blue Hens won a 173-127 decision over the Blue Jays.

Johns Hopkins did not compete in a dual meet last season.

Navy and Johns Hopkins last met two years ago in Annapolis.  The Mids recorded a 211-82 victory in that meet.

About Towson – Men (0-0)
Friday's meet will be the first of the season for Towson.

The Tigers posted a 3-1 record during the 2020-21 dual meet season, with that loss being a 188-100 defeat to Navy.  Towson went on to win the Colonial Athletic Association Championship.

About Towson – Women (1-0)
The Tigers began their 2021-22 season last weekend with a 157-143 victory against James Madison.

Towson split four dual meets last season.  One of the team's two losses was a 196-81 loss to Navy.  The Tigers would end the 2020-21 season by placing third at the  CAA Championship.
