ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy senior sprint football player
Adam Weissenfels (Richland, Wash.) was named the Naval Academy Athletic Association (NAAA) Athlete of the Week presented by Northrop Grumman after helping win the Star for the Midshipmen in the annual Army-Navy sprint football Star Game last weekend.
Navy posted a 14-6 victory in the annual Star Game on the road against Army. Weissenfels shined in all aspects on special teams and defense.
Leading 7-3 in the fourth quarter, Navy lined up for a field goal on fourth and four from the Army 24 yardline. Weissenfels completed a pass to
Alex Totta (Kanas City, Kan.) for nine yards and a first down on the fake field goal. On the ensuing play, Navy scored a touchdown to secure the victory.
In addition, Weissenfels tallied 40 yards on three kickoff returns, while returning five punts for 20 total yards, finishing second on the team with 60 all-purpose yards. Defensively, Weissenfels helped hold the potent Black Knight offense to under 200 yards total yards (193 yards of total offense), including -10 yards rushing, 203 passing yards, and no touchdowns. The senior finished the game with six tackles, including five solo stops, while adding 1.0 tackles for loss for four yards.
With the win, Navy improved to 3-0 on the season, outscoring opponents 121-13. The Mids return to action on Saturday, Oct. 9, as they head to Philippi, W.Va. for a divisional showdown with Alderson Broaddus. Kickoff is slated for 12:00 p.m. The game will be live streamed and live stats will be available.
