McGee, Weissenfels Claim CSFL Weekly Accolades

Matthew McGee and Adam Weissenfels earned Offensive and Special Teams Player of the Week honors, respectively.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) announced its weekly award winners and Navy's Matthew McGee (Port Charlotte, Fla.) and Adam Weissenfels (Richland, Wash.) were selected as Offensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively.

The two seniors helped Navy cruise to a 46-3 victory over Mansfield on Senior Day on a rainy Friday night in Annapolis.

McGee finished the game with 82 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns on the day. With the game under control, the offensive captain sat out most of the second half. McGee tallied 75 of his 82 rushing yards and all three of this touchdowns in the first half. He opened the game with three carries for 18 yards on Navy's opening drive to put the Mids on the scoreboard – a lead the Midshipmen would not relinquish. On Navy's second drive of the game, McGee rushed five times (of the seven plays) for 28 yards and his second score of the game. The senior completed the hat trick with his third touchdown of the game 92 seconds into the second quarter finishing the scoring drive with an 11-yard rush into the end zone.

Weissenfels did a little bit of everything on defense and special teams for the Midshipmen. He led the team with three punt returns for 84 yards, including a 62-yard return on the first punt of the game to set up Navy inside the red zone for a score to take the early lead. The senior's second punt return (18 yards) set Navy up for its second score of the game. Due to an injury, Weissenfels served as the punter during the game, finished with five punts for 155 total yards and a 31.0 average, placing one punt inside of the 20 yardline. Mansfield returned just two punts for a combined seven yards. On defense, Weissenfels intercepted a pass, returning it for 39 yards to set up another Navy touchdown.

Navy returns to action next week, as the Midshipmen travel to Philadelphia for a CSFL South Division showdown with Penn at 7:00 p.m. at historic Franklin Field. The winner of the game earns a spot in the CSLF Championship. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats will be available.
