Track and Field Opens Indoor Season at Home on Saturday

Field events begin at 9:30 a.m., while running events start at 11:15 a.m. Live results will be available.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy track and field team officially begins the 2021-22 indoor season on Saturday, Dec. 4, as the Midshipmen host the Navy Invitational I at Wesley A. Brown Field House. The meet begins at 9:30 a.m. with the field events with the running events starting at 11:15 a.m. The meet is open to the public and admission is free.

Accessing the Naval Academy
The Naval Academy is closed to all vehicles without a Department of Defense-approved identification card. All other visitors must either walk through one of the security gates or ride the shuttle bus. The free shuttle bus service begins one hour before all meets. Whether walking on or riding the shuttle bus, those ages 18 and over must present a photo identification card (driver's license) to gain access and those ages 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
 
The shuttle will depart from and return to the Navy Health Clinic (695 Kinkaid Rd., Annapolis, MD, 21402). There is no parking fee for this meet.
 
COVID-19 Policy
As per Department of Defense regulations, those who have not been vaccinated must wear a mask at all times when on the USNA grounds and those who have been vaccinated have the option to wear a mask while outdoors but must wear a mask while indoors. Additionally, masks must be worn by everyone regardless of vaccination status while riding the shuttle bus.

2021-22 Captains Announced for Track & Field Program
The track and field program announced its captains for the 2021-22 academic year. Katie Halbert (Keller, Texas) and Sean Casey (Vienna, Va.) are slated to lead Navy's indoor track and field teams.
 
Halbert is a decorated multis athlete, who has earned accolades from her results at the Patriot League and ECAC Championships over her first three seasons with the Mids. Focusing on the pentathlon and hurdles for indoor events and the heptathlon and hurdles for outdoor competition, the Keller, Texas native has two All-Patriot League and two All-ECAC honors to her name, including the 2021 Patriot League Championship in the heptathlon at the league's outdoor championship.
 
A member of both the track & field and cross country teams, Casey has thrived in middle distance and relay competitions at Navy. A Vienna, Virginia native, Casey is a three-time Patriot League Champion has he's been a member of the 4x800m relay team that placed first at the 2019 outdoor championship and the 2020 indoor championship, as well as a member of the distance medley relay that came in first at the 2020 Patriot League Indoor Championship. Individually, he raced his way to a runner-up finish in the 800m run at the 2020 indoor league championship. Casey was recently in the national news as he was recognized as a 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-American First Team honoree for his success on the track and in the classroom.
 
2020-21 Season in Review
The 2020-21 men's and women's track and field programs went undefeated for the first time in program history.
 
Both the men and women swept the Army-Navy Indoor and Outdoor competitions, earning four Stars on the year.
 
The Midshipmen swept the Patriot League Outdoor Championships. Director of Navy Track and Field Jamie Cook was named 2021 Patriot League Men's and Women's Outdoor Coach of the Year, while Clayton Thompson and Molly Mangan were each named Patriot League Track Athletes of the Year.
 
For the first time in program history, the Navy track and field team swept the IC4A / ECAC Outdoor Championships.
 
In addition, sixteen (16) track and field student-athletes represented the Academy at the 2021 NCAA East Preliminaries.
 
During the 2021 season, Cook was named the Mid-Atlantic Region Women's Coach of the Year during the indoor season, while claiming Mid-Atlantic Region Men's Coach of the Year honors for outdoor competition.
 
In the classroom, Navy track and field had 15 USTFCCCA Academic honorees, five CoSIDA Academic All-District awards, and two CoSIDA Academic All-Americans. In addition, Thomas Johnstone ('21) was the Class of 2021 valedictorian.
